Protel Red Sold to Marcatel S.A. de C.V.

September 18, 2009.  Communications Equity Associates (“CEA”) announced today that it advised the shareholders of Protel i-Next S.A. de C.V. on the sale of its primary infrastructure assets and business, known as Protel Red.  Protel Red owns and operates a state-of-the-art voice and data national fiber network extending more than 1,951km throughout Mexico.

Marcatel S.A. de C.V., a Mexican telecommunications company based in Monterrey, acquired Protel Red in exchange for cash and the assumption of related liabilities.  The shareholders of Protel i-Next S.A. de C.V. will maintain their retail business operating under the i-Next brand and will be capacity holders on the Protel Red network.

Alex Rossi, Managing Director of CEA’s Latin America Corporate Finance Advisory Group, represented the shareholders on the transaction.  Mr. Rossi is based in CEA’s New York office.
